What a wonderful and big picture view you have given us! This is something to be read and re-read, Tim. I am passing on to friends and family. It was excellent to see the key parts of Eisenhowerโs 1961 speech. We were warned but distracted by bread and circuses.
A cracking good read. I too am an admirer of both Sagan and especially Feynman and I especially like the phrase โcelebration of ignoranceโ which lies at the heart of every authoritarian regime or society. I think it was Bill Bonner who quoted H.L. Mencken โMoral certainty is always a sign cultural inferiority. The more uncivilized the man, the surer he is that he knows precisely what is right and wrong. All human progress, even in morals, has been the work of men who have doubted the current moral values, not of men who have whooped them up and tried to enforce them. The truly civilized man is always skeptical and tolerant, in this field as in all others. His culture is based on โI am not too sure.โโ
Tim, thank you for this great article. You pull together so many seemingly unrelated threads into a coherent, informative, and depressing narrative. Is there anything common people can do about this? It is clear that voting isn't the answer. It has been noted that (especially) in the US and abroad, the people have voted for and elected 'change' candidates repeatedly, but nothing ever changes, probably due to the themes in your article. If you could develop the topic more, as well as more broadly promote this article, it would be a great service.
Thank you, Craig. I suggest that a mass boycott of all sponsors of the World Economic Forum would be a great place to start. Since there is a heavy role being played by unprincipled corporate greedheads, starving the beast seems eminently reasonable. Their website lists all the enemies of free and honest humanity.
One of your best commentaries Tim. Yet as with most of your articles I am always left feeling a little depressed and angered by what is going on around us today. I used to feel that the BBC and PBS were the best news viewing services around, but now I am forced to view various web sources in order to see what is happening behind the curtain. I have been around for over 65 years now and it is pretty evident that since the start of the 21st century it's been one damn crisis after another. Each one papered over with increasing amounts of toilet tissue. This last crisis, the combination of inflation/interest rates/war in Ukraine may just be the point where it starts to fall apart. I get the feeling 2024 will be a year for the history books.
Thank you. I recommend the book โ180 degrees: unlearn the lies youโve been taught to believeโ by Feargus OโConnor Greenwood. Paul Rodriguez and I recently interviewed the author. Weโve been lied to about just about everything forever.

Thank you, Reuben !

I didn't listen to the interview but will do so now.
Itโll be uploaded in a week or two.
Ok I will look out for that. Thanks!
