What a wonderful and big picture view you have given us! This is something to be read and re-read, Tim. I am passing on to friends and family. It was excellent to see the key parts of Eisenhower’s 1961 speech. We were warned but distracted by bread and circuses.

A cracking good read. I too am an admirer of both Sagan and especially Feynman and I especially like the phrase “celebration of ignorance” which lies at the heart of every authoritarian regime or society. I think it was Bill Bonner who quoted H.L. Mencken “Moral certainty is always a sign cultural inferiority. The more uncivilized the man, the surer he is that he knows precisely what is right and wrong. All human progress, even in morals, has been the work of men who have doubted the current moral values, not of men who have whooped them up and tried to enforce them. The truly civilized man is always skeptical and tolerant, in this field as in all others. His culture is based on ‘I am not too sure.’”
