Great article as ever Tim. Sadly the concept of Caveat Emptor has long since gone and arguably regulation has replaced opacity, for instance in respect of hidden charges, with complexity which most clients don’t have the ability or will to get through. I completely agree with David on the FCA but don’t want to get started!

Henry Marsh .. what a gent! When I was unsure of the significance or issues of a medical point in injury cases where he was the treating Surgeon I found I could drop him a note and he would call me to explain the finer issues and the bear traps and without actually saying it, how he would run the case. No other hands-on surgeon ever did that.

As for the FCA .. it’s hopeless. Our SIPPs and ISAs were frozen at SVS for a year while they faffed around and then their favoured buyer ITI did the same thing. And their Ombudsmen are as hopeless as you can get.
